Professor Ir. Dr Ahmad Kamal Ariffin Mohd. Ihsan

(Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia)

Ahmad Kamal Ariffin is a Professor at the Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering, UKM.  He graduated with a Bachelor in Mechanical Engineering from UKM in 1990.  He then worked as an engineer before joining the Dept. of Mechanical and Materials Engineering, UKM and continued his studies in 1992.  End of 1995, he received his PhD from University of Wales Swansea under the Mechanical Engineering Department and Institute of Numerical Methods in Engineering.  Dr. Ahmad Kamal Ariffin teaches Mechanics of Materials, Computational Methods in Engineering and Finite Element Methods. His specialty is in the computational method in engineering under the area of powder mechanics, fracture mechanics, friction, corrosion, finite element/discrete element and parallels computations.   He is a Fellow of the Institute of Materials Malaysia, founder of Malaysian Association of Computational Mechanics and also a member of International Association of Computational Mechanics (IACM).



Mr. Manuel Lopez

Director of Singapore Branch

CIMNE International Center for Numerical Methods in Engineering

Mr. Lopez is currently Director from CIMNE-SGP, the ASEAN branch of the International Center for Numerical Methods in Engineering (CIMNE). He is a founder of Compass Ingenieria y Sistemas, SA jointly with CIMNE, that is a consulting services company specialized in the engineering design, as well as in the development of software for calculation and information management in technology, that support its activities for Glass Manufacturing industry, Offshore Building industry and Civil Engineering industry. He is promoter and founder of Nautatec S.L., specialized in yacht and special craft design. Nautatec S.L. has been awarded in 2007 as the most relevant organization in the innovation for the naval sector by the Spanish Association of Marine Engineers. He has been a researcher over the past 25 years for several America's Cup Teams to obtain successful victories. He innovated in the power transmission between the engines and water-jet in high speed vessels, or in the increase of the yield strength of lead with the addition of calcium maximizing the weight of the lead for very heavy pieces in marine application.
